5. The Pearl

The Pearl is a man-made island about the size of Monaco, built on reclaimed sea off the northern Doha coastline. It is home to some of the most extravagant real estate in Qatar — private marinas, multi-storey penthouses, European-branded luxury retail, and waterfront restaurants charging Abu Dhabi prices.
The best part for a layover visit is Porto Arabia, a marina ringed by apartment blocks and ground-floor restaurants. Strolling around the marina in the evening is genuinely pleasant. It has that specific Gulf city vibe of extraordinary wealth and immaculate presentation.
Qanat Quartier is the surreal Venice-inspired section of the island — pastel-coloured buildings over canals, bridges, gondolas for hire. Whether this reads as charming or deeply odd depends entirely on you.
Worth a visit if you have 24+ hours in Doha and want to see a different register of the city. Not essential on a shorter layover — prioritise Souq and MIA Park first.
Getting there: Taxi or ride app from the city. Around 15 minutes from the Souq.
