What To Do Inside Doha Airport

Hamad International Airport is in a different league from most transit hubs. It was built to be explored, not just passed through.

  • The Orchard: This is a living indoor tropical garden in the middle of the terminal. Real trees, a waterfall, fake grass areas, wooden tepee structures, and plenty of quiet corners to sit. It is genuinely calming. It also doubles as one of the better free sleeping spots in the airport if you are on an overnight transit.
  • The 23-foot bear lamp sculpture: It sits in the main concourse and stops almost everyone in their tracks. Created by Swiss artist Urs Fischer, it is a giant yellow teddy bear holding a floor lamp. You can not miss it, and you will photograph it whether you planned to or not.
  • The OREO Café: A branded café dedicated entirely to OREO cookies in various forms. Strange, genuinely enjoyable, and surprisingly popular.
  • The Oryx Airport Hotel pool and spa: You do not need to be a guest of the hotel to use the facilities. The hotel is located inside the terminal beyond passport control, so it is accessible to all transit passengers. A swim, a gym session, a sauna, or a massage is available at an additional cost. If you have 6+ hours and a bit of budget, it transforms an overnight layover.
  • Sleep 'n Fly pods: If you just need to sleep, these pay-by-the-hour pods inside the terminal are clean and comfortable. They include unlimited coffee, water, and soft drinks in the rate. Private pods and double rooms are available alongside dorm-style bunks.
  • The art trail: Beyond the bear, the airport has a rotating collection of contemporary art and permanent installations spread across the terminal. It is worth a slow wander.
  • Showers and rest zones: Free showers are available 24 hours and are generally well maintained. The reclining chairs in the rest zones are the best free sleeping option in the airport.
