6. Go Dune Bashing
Qatar is, at its core, a desert country. Most of the peninsula is flat, sandy, sun-beaten terrain. The most dramatic of it is in the south, around Khor Al Udaid — the Inland Sea — where enormous sand dunes meet a sheltered tidal inlet of the Arabian Gulf.
Dune bashing in a 4x4 across this landscape is one of the most viscerally thrilling things you can do in Qatar, and it is well-established as a tour experience out of Doha. Half-day desert tours pick up from the city or airport and cover both dune driving and time at the sea.
Do not attempt this independently. The desert is genuinely dangerous — temperatures can be extreme, navigation is difficult without GPS knowledge, and vehicles get bogged. Go with a licensed operator, every time.
This requires at least 8 hours total including travel, and works best on a 24-hour layover.
