Qatar's Protected Areas and Conservation Reserves
Al Reem Biosphere Reserve

Al Reem is Qatar's largest protected area and its first UNESCO Man and the Biosphere designation, received in 2007. It covers approximately 1,190 square kilometres of interior desert, representing about one tenth of Qatar's total land area.
The reserve protects arid steppe, rocky plains, and wadis. Arabian oryx, sand gazelles, Ruppell's fox, houbara bustards, and spiny-tailed lizards all live within its boundaries. It is the primary site for Qatar's desert wildlife management and restoration work.
