Trump Urges Arab States to Join Abraham Accords as Iran Talks Continue

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday, 25 May 2026, that negotiations with Iran were “going nicely” and called on Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Arab and Muslim‑majority states to immediately sign up to the Abraham Accords, which aim to normalize ties with Israel. Trump added that “everyone else should follow suit.”

In a separate post, Trump stressed that the Iran deal will either be ‘great and meaningful, or there will be no deal at all.’ He reiterated that the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ships in the Strait of Hormuz would remain “in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed.”

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that a conclusion had been reached on “many topics,” but cautioned this did not mean the sides were close to signing. He said the proposed memorandum of understanding contains 14 points, focusing on ending the war and lifting the blockade in exchange for Iran ensuring safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Nuclear issues, he added, would be negotiated separately over a 60‑day period if a framework accord is agreed.

Trump has repeatedly said his key objective is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, while Tehran insists it has no such plans.
