Qatar Backs UN Condemnation of Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

Qatar has welcomed a statement by members of the United Nations Security Council condemning recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping.

The Security Council statement, issued on August 7, condemned missile attacks carried out by the Houthi group against Saudi Arabia since July 13, as well as attacks targeting commercial vessels since July 22.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation for the Security Council’s emphasis on respecting international law and relevant UN resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 2216.

The ministry also welcomed the Council members’ rejection of actions that could undermine regional security or threaten the rights and freedoms associated with maritime navigation.

Qatar Reaffirms Solidarity With Saudi Arabia

Qatar reiterated its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and affirmed its support for measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its sovereignty and national security.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the security of Saudi Arabia is closely connected to the security of Qatar and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council region.

The statement underscores Qatar’s position in support of regional stability, respect for international law and the protection of maritime navigation amid heightened security concerns in the region.
