Qatar Airways announces it is reopening more routes across the Middle East as the airline continues to rebuild its network after US-Iran war airspace closures. Qatar Airways announced on Wednesday, 13 May, that it will resume its twice-daily flights to Abu Dhabi. It marks the third route offered by the airline from the UAE, with Dubai and Sharjah following suit last month.
It may be one of a growing number of Middle Eastern destinations Qatar Airways has resumed flights to in recent times, with Bahrain, Baghdad and Erbil also among those announced recently. After large numbers of flights were grounded across the Middle East amid the US-Iran war, the airline has been slowly restoring its route network.
The Doha-based carrier was one of the worst hit in the region, which had to ground some of its fleet at Teruel Airport in rural Spain throughout March. The Doha-based airline said it was storing around 17 jets at the former military base, which has been used for housing grounded planes during the Covid pandemic, according to Reuters.
Still, Qatar Airways said Thursday its flight network would be back to 150 destinations on 16 June.

These routes are included in a network expansion announced last week, when the carrier confirmed its flight net would expand in time for the summer. According to the blog: “Qatar Airways bolsters its international flight network with over 150 destinations from 16 June 2026, connecting more passengers to more of the world this summer.
This new schedule is to continue over the summer until 15 September, and features additional routes alongside frequencies in both directions to/from Doha.
