Istanbul, November 01, 2026 : Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed his country's readiness to contribute to efforts aimed at creating conditions for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following their meeting in Istanbul, Erdogan said the two leaders had discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war, along with the security situation in the Black Sea.
He warned that attacks on civilian vessels and actions that escalate tensions in the Black Sea would benefit no party, reiterating Ankara's willingness to support initiatives aimed at achieving peace.
For his part, Zelensky said discussions also covered plans for trilateral negotiations involving US, Ukrainian and Russian representatives, which are expected to take place in early November.
He added that Ukraine wants European countries and potentially Turkiye to take part in discussions on ending the conflict, which has entered its fifth year.
Zelensky also noted that the two leaders had agreed on increased Turkish support for Ukraine's energy sector amid escalating Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
