Kinshasa, November 01, 2026 : The death toll from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has climbed to 5,340, out of 10,351 confirmed cases recorded as of October 29, according to the country's Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare.
The ministry reported a case fatality rate of 51.6 percent among confirmed infections.
Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Dr. Jean Kaseya, had earlier warned that the outbreak could pose a threat to neighbouring countries as the virus continues to spread within the DRC.
On August 21, the United Nations called for additional urgent funding and resources to contain the epidemic, which is spreading in an area affected by three decades of armed conflict and significant humanitarian needs.
Earlier, on May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the epidemiological situation in the DRC and Uganda an emergency posing a threat to other countries, citing a high level of regional risk.
