Kinshasa, October 26, 2026 : Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) have launched a clinical trial of an Ebola vaccine as part of ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
The trial will assess the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness, help determine the populations that could benefit from vaccination and monitor potential side effects throughout the research process.
Health experts have cautioned that the start of the trial does not mean the vaccine has been approved for general use or that its effectiveness has been conclusively established. Its performance will be determined through the collection and analysis of data during the clinical study phases.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to implement key public health measures to control transmission, including monitoring suspected cases, isolating infected individuals, tracing contacts and conducting public awareness campaigns. Efforts also include providing frontline healthcare workers with the equipment needed to respond to the outbreak.
DR Congo announced an Ebola outbreak in mid-May. The disease remains a major public health threat, having claimed more than 15,000 lives across Africa over the past five decades, according to the report.
