Doha, October 26, 2026 : Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality has introduced new regulations allowing farms to be subdivided into plots of at least 50,000 square metres, cutting the previous minimum requirement of 100,000 square metres.
The revised rules aim to improve the use of agricultural land while protecting groundwater resources, expanding investment opportunities and supporting small and medium-sized agricultural projects. The measure also aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in strengthening food security.
In a statement issued Monday, the ministry said the amendment forms part of its ongoing efforts to develop the agricultural sector and encourage farm owners to make more effective use of their holdings, improving land-use efficiency and supporting domestic agricultural production.
The lower minimum area gives owners of productive farms greater flexibility in subdividing their land, creating more opportunities to invest in agricultural plots in line with the activities for which they are designated and the applicable conditions and regulations.
The ministry added that the change is expected to attract new investors with the technical expertise and financial resources needed to develop subdivided land. This could broaden the agricultural investment base, increase the area used for production and contribute to higher domestic output.
The Ministry of Municipality said the updated regulations are intended to create a more investment-friendly environment for agriculture through improved regulatory frameworks, more efficient land use and expanded opportunities for production. These efforts support Qatar’s goal of increasing local output and advancing food self-sufficiency.
