Qatar embraces a new heartbeat every 19 minutes

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), a total of 28,159 infants were born in Qatar last year, with 22,287 births occurring at Hamad Medical Corporation hospitals and the remainder at private medical facilities.

Registration with the Ministry and the issuance of a birth certificate are mandatory for all babies born in public or private hospitals in Qatar.

In 2023, the MoPH disclosed various statistics regarding the services it provided. The Medical Commission, operating under the MoPH, recorded 462,044 individual visits in the same year. This health screening is obligatory for newcomers seeking work and residence in Qatar, a prerequisite for obtaining a work residence permit. Job seekers from specific countries undergo pre-employment medical examinations in their home countries through approved clinics before arriving in Qatar.

In the same year, the Ministry issued 17,000 medical fitness certificates, mandatory for employees in both government agencies and the private sector. Industries such as food, beauty salons, health clubs, and laundries necessitate an annual medical fitness certificate, requiring individuals to undergo a medical examination at the Medical Commission and submit the necessary documents.

MoPH, responsible for approving licenses for healthcare facilities and professionals, processed 1,703 applications for new licenses or renewals for healthcare facilities. Additionally, it granted licenses to 5,244 healthcare practitioners in 2023.

The Ministry received 53,167 applications from Qatari citizens seeking medical treatment abroad.

The Government Health Communication Center handled 4,531 cases related to various inquiries.

The Food Safety Department of the ministry played a crucial role in implementing health policies regarding food safety. In the past year, it inspected 114,776 food consignments at ports, including 2,757,300,233 kilograms of imported food.
