Practical Tips
-
Currency: Omani Rial (OMR). Cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants, but carry cash for souks and smaller establishments.
-
Dress: Modest clothing is advised in public spaces and near religious sites. Lightweight cotton layers work well year-round.
-
Visas: Most nationalities can obtain an e-visa online via the Royal Oman Police portal. GCC nationals do not require one.
-
Safety: Salalah is a safe destination. Oman has fortified its borders thoroughly, and the city presents no security concerns for travellers.
-
Language: Arabic is the official language, but English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas.
A Final Word
Best experienced: During the Khareef (late June–September) or shortly after (October–November). Plan ahead, rent a car, and leave plenty of time to get wonderfully, happily lost.
