Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani
The State of Qatar welcomed the adoption of the Doha Program of Action (DPoA) for the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) for the decade 2022-2031 by consensus, considering the DPoA adoption in the first part of the conference an important achievement that would contribute to adding positive momentum to the efforts and preparations for holding the second part of the conference, which the State of Qatar aspires to host from March 5-9, 2023.
This came in the statement with which by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani concluded the work of the first part of the LDC5, which was held at the UN headquarters in New York under the chairmanship of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
Her Excellency stated that the DPoA adoption clearly shows the political will and spirit of solidarity to support the least developed countries, especially in light of the exceptional challenges facing these countries and the need more than ever for enhanced global partnerships to support sustainable development in them.
Also, she expressed Qatar's appreciation to the Least Developed Countries Group represented by HE President of the Republic of Malawi Lazarus Chakwera for the important and valuable role during the DPoA preparations and for all partners for their constructive participation and full support during the consultation process, praising the valuable efforts made by HE Permanent Representative of Bangladesh and HE Permanent Representative of Canada for their wise conduct of the consultations and their successful conclusion.
HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani thanked the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States and the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management for the close cooperation and important support provided.
HE Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN explained that the DPoA adoption represents a new stage, expressing the State of Qatar's firm conviction that the collective success in this endeavor lies in the effectiveness of the full implementation of this program by all partners and stakeholders.
In her speech, Her Excellency expressed the State of Qatar's confidence that the LDC5 would be a unique opportunity to demonstrate everyone's commitment to cooperation and multilateral action, support the least developed countries to maintain the progress achieved since the adoption of the Istanbul Program of Action (IPoA), help these countries address the emerging and continuing challenges, and build more prosperous, inclusive and resilient societies and economies.
HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani affirmed that preparations will continue effectively to hold the LDC5 second part in Doha from March 5-9, 2023, stressing that the State of Qatar will spare no effort to make the conference a milestone event that lives up to the aspirations and expectations of the least developed countries on their path towards achieving growth and prosperity.
