Qatar says diplomatic efforts between Iran and the need 'more time'
Qatar emphasises the need to allow diplomacy more time as tensions simmer between US and Iran after Donald Trump says he had aborted another planned strike on Islamic Republic.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari told a press conference in Doha on Tuesday Qatar is very supportive of further diplomatic efforts for de-escalation and bilateral talks to achieve it hardcore.
Al-Ansari, however, also said that negotiations and mediation processes are ongoing and need more time to produce a concrete solution. He mentioned Qatar’s backing of Pakistan and other regional partners in their efforts to build dialogue among all sides.
Qatar Emphasises Dialogue Over Conflict
Al-Ansari told the news site that Qatar thinks "the best way for a stable region is still through dialogue." Negotiations between Washington and Tehran are "at a sensitive stage" and hasty decisions could have jeopardised progress already achieved, he explained.
Key points raised by Qatar are:
- Ongoing US-Iran Diplomacy
- Regional endeavours to bring down pressures amiably
- Assistance for Pakistan-led mediation initiatives
- The Need to Avoid an Escalatory Military Scenario
This new development comes after Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he had chosen not to continue with a subsequent strike against Iran, sparking hope of diplomacy going forward.
Qatar has always been at the forefront of efforts for regional mediation, and continues to strive towards peaceful solutions through dialogue and cooperation.
Regional leaders are closely following developments behind the scenes, hoping that diplomacy may prevent further Middle Eastern instability.
