Qatar Education Ministry Launches Updated Guide for Private School Admissions

Education Ministry issues updated guide with age requirements for private school admissions

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE), through its Private Schools and Kindergartens Department, has released the second edition of its regulatory guide for admissions and registration in private schools and kindergartens, setting clear standards for the 2026 academic year.

The guide applies to private schools, kindergartens, embassy‑affiliated institutions, Qatari curriculum schools, international schools, and special education facilities. Officials emphasised that the framework is designed to unify procedures, ensure equal opportunities, and streamline registration and transfer processes across the sector.

Key Provisions of the Guide:

  • Age Requirements: The guide defines the age of admission for each educational stage, ensuring consistency across institutions.
  • Documentation: It clarifies the required documents for enrollment, including identification papers and academic records.
  • Registration & Transfer: Mechanisms for registration, transfer, and cancellation are standardized, with clear criteria for handling exceptional cases.
  • Grade Equivalence: Approved tables establish equivalence between different curricula, allowing smoother transitions for students moving between systems.

New Articles Introduced:

  • Adoption of a unified timetable for registration and transfer.
  • Expansion of exceptions to provide greater flexibility and fairness.
  • Specific regulations for the admission of students with disabilities and learning difficulties, ensuring inclusivity.

During the launch, MOEHE officials highlighted that the guide balances the unique identity of embassy‑affiliated schools with adherence to national quality standards, safeguarding both educational diversity and regulatory discipline.

The Ministry also presented the mandatory education enrollment platform, developed under Law No. 25 of 2001 on Mandatory Education. The platform integrates registration procedures into a single electronic system, simplifying processes for parents and guardians while supporting Qatar’s digital transformation agenda.

Officials stressed that the updated guide and platform represent strategic steps toward enhancing transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in Qatar’s education system, ensuring that all students have access to high‑quality learning opportunities.
