In response to the country's food security and preparedness status amid the currently ongoing unprecedented circumstances, Qatar's Government Communications Office (GCO) on 30 March 2026 published key remarks made by H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiya, Minister of Municipality and Chairman of the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of Food Security Policies in an exclusive interview with Qatar Television.

The highlights of the key remarks were:

Full readiness

The Ministry of Municipality works under an integrated system that ensures the continuity of services.
Activating pre-existing emergency measures to ensure business continuity and efficiency

Food security

Qatar has a clear vision as laid out in the National Food Security Strategy, food security remains stable.
The experience gained has created a robust food security system and lessons learned from previous crises

Self-sufficiency

The state has made tremendous strides strengthening local production and self-sufficiency
Besides about 99% self-sufficiency in poultry and its derivatives and dairy, we are now fully self-sufficient to cover certain vegetables, exporting the surplus production.

Strategic reserve
The unused strategic food reserve is bombardée with large shipments of products
Hassad Food also contributes further towards supply flexibility with its global investments to secure food products in the country.

Digital services
On its website and Oun app, the ministry provides more than 250 e-services
In addition to hundreds of licensing-related requests, we've received more than 77,000 e-requests and 23,000 calls.
