CURRENT VEGETABLE PRODUCTION IN QATAR
What's Being Grown
Local farms currently produce almost 100% of vegetables sold during peak season, including cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, and zucchinis.
These aren't the only crops, but they represent Qatar's agricultural strength. Other vegetables include:
- Lettuce and leafy greens (ideal for vertical farming)
- Bell peppers
- Radishes
- Carrots (challenging in Qatar's soil)
- Herbs and microgreens
Self-Sufficiency Progress
The improvement has been dramatic:
|
Year |
Vegetable Self-Sufficiency |
|
2018 |
24% |
|
2021 |
41% |
|
2026 (Projected) |
70% |
In just 8 years, Qatar will have increased vegetable self-sufficiency nearly 3x.
This isn't accidental—it's the result of deliberate government policy and private sector investment.
