The number of building permits issued by various municipalities in the State of Qatar recorded a significant increase of 43% in August 2022, reaching 784 licenses, compared to 550 licenses registered in July, according to a report released by the Panning and Statistics Authority on Saturday.

The report explained that all municipalities in the country recorded a noticeable increase in the number of building permits during August, most notably Al Shamal municipality, which recorded a significant increase by 275%, followed by the municipalities of Al Daayen (98%), then Al Shihaniya (47%), Al Rayyan (39%), Umm Salal (37%), Doha (32%), Al Wakrah (31%), and Al Khor (13%).

According to its geographical distribution, Al Rayyan municipality topped the list in terms of the number of building permits issued; it issued 205 licenses, accounting for 26% of the total licenses issued, while Doha municipality came in second place with 182 licenses, or 23%, followed by Al Wakra municipality, where it issued 176 licenses, or 22%, and then Al Daayen municipality with 121 licenses, 15%, while the rest of the licenses were distributed to Umm Salal, 37 licenses, 5%, Al Khor, 26 licenses, 3%, Al Shihaniya, 22 licenses, 3%, and Al Shamal is 15.2 percent.

The data indicated that the number of new building permits (residential and non-residential) accounted for 43% (337 licenses) of the total building permits issued during last August, while construction permits for additions accounted for 55% (430 licenses), and fencing walls licenses by 2% (17 licenses).

Villa licenses topped the list of new residential buildings, accounting for 86% (212 licenses) of the total licenses of new residential buildings, followed by buildings with apartments by 9% (23 licenses), then the loan housing category by 3% (8 licenses).

Commercial buildings came at the forefront of new non-residential building licenses with 56% (50 licenses), followed by industrial buildings such as workshops and factories with 18% (16 licenses), then government buildings and mosques with 12% each (11 licenses each).

With regard to construction completion certificates issued during August 2022, the report clarified a monthly increase of 30%, reaching 401 certificates last August compared to 308 recorded last July.

Most municipalities recorded a significant increase in the number of certificates, most notably Al-Shihaniya (125%), then Al Wakrah (55%), Al Rayyan and Al Daayen (34% each), Umm Salal (28%) and Doha (10%), while the municipalities of Al Shamal and Al Khor recorded a decrease of about (42%) and(30%) respectively.

According to its geographical distribution, Al Wakra municipality came at the forefront of the municipalities in terms of the number of construction completion certificates issued by 102 certificates, accounting for 25% of the total construction completion certificates issued, while Al Rayyan municipality came in second place with 98 certificates, or 24%, followed by Al Daayen municipality, where it issued 78 certificates, or 19%, and then Doha Municipality with 54, or 13%, while the rest of the certificates were distributed to Umm Salal 46 certificates, 11%, Al Shihaniya 9 certificates, 2%, Al Khor and Al Shamal 7 certificates, 2% per municipality.

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

The release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides.
