Berlin, November 06, 2026 : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the death toll from a Russian strike on an aid distribution centre in southeastern Ukraine had risen to 40, with dozens of people still reported missing.
Speaking during a visit to Berlin, Zelenskyy said more than 30 people could remain trapped beneath the rubble. He described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks attributed to Russia since the beginning of the war.
According to the Ukrainian president, Russian forces first struck a location where residents had gathered to receive humanitarian assistance before launching a second wave of attacks. He said nine additional aerial bombs hit an underground shelter where people had sought refuge.
Zelenskyy said the attack had undermined hopes for progress towards peace, arguing that it showed Russia was not pursuing de-escalation or a genuine path to a settlement.
On Tuesday, he had reported that 33 people were killed in the attack on the village of Komyshuvakha in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.
The incident comes amid continued fighting between Russia and Ukraine, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement to the conflict.
