U.S. Strikes Iran for 13th Consecutive Night as Tensions Escalate in Strait of Hormuz

The United States has carried out its 13th consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian military targets, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict centered around the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest wave of strikes—conducted late Thursday—lasted more than two hours and targeted Iranian military command centers, drone storage facilities, communication networks, coastal surveillance sites, and maritime capabilities. 

Intensifying Conflict Across Strategic Maritime Routes

Iranian state media reported explosions in Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas, with at least two people injured. These areas sit near the narrowest point of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping artery. The Hindu’s coverage noted that the strikes continue to escalate clashes over shipping routes, further destabilizing the region. 

U.S. Justification and Political Backdrop

The strikes come amid heightened political tension in Washington. President Donald Trump defended the ongoing military campaign, stating the U.S. must “do what we came to do,” even as Congress remains divided over whether to end the conflict. The House voted 214–208 to halt the war, while the Senate blocked a similar measure. 

Rising Casualties and Regional Fallout

The sustained military operations follow multiple U.S. troop deaths in recent days, with Iran firing missiles toward Jordan earlier in the week—actions that risk widening the conflict. CENTCOM has framed the strikes as necessary to diminish Iran’s ability to threaten civilian mariners and retaliate for attacks on U.S. personnel. 

Regional Reactions

Neighboring states, including Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, have reported intercepting Iranian attacks, underscoring the broader regional implications. The conflict has already disrupted key highways and infrastructure near Bandar Abbas, according to Iranian state media.
