Turkish Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu praised Qatar's role in the urgent response to reduce the negative effects of disasters and crises, in addition to its support for humanitarian issues around the world, and its stance during the fire disaster in Turkey last summer.

This came on the occasion of signing a memorandum of understanding by Qatar Charity and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) in the Turkish capital, Ankara, with the aim to enhance coordination and joint cooperation between the two parties in the fields of humanitarian work.

HE the Turkish Minister of Interior praised Qatar Charity's efforts to provide aid, support the displaced in northern Syria, and educate Syrian children in Turkey.

He expressed his happiness at the renewal of the agreement between Qatar Charity and AFAD, wishing that the partnership between the two sides would be strengthened to contribute to the implementation of qualitative projects in the humanitarian fields.

The current memorandum is a continuation of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2016 between the two parties.

The agreement aims to continue joint cooperation between the two parties with the need to strengthen disaster and emergency management systems and humanitarian aid, build a strategic partnership between them and benefit from the synergies between each of them in their humanitarian missions. The MoU will be valid for a period of three years.

For his part, HE Minister of State and Chairman of Qatar Charitys Board of Directors Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani praised the efforts of the Turkish government and relevant Turkish institutions to facilitate Qatar Charitys work and performance of its humanitarian tasks, whether in Turkey or inside Syria, noting that it was an important factor in the achievements and successes which it accomplished through its office, which benefited nearly 14 million displaced Syrians and refugees, and cared for thousands of orphans.

He valued the role of the Turkish government and people in providing relief to the Syrian people and hosting millions of refugees on their lands, noting that it is not strange for an ancient people throughout recent and long history and viewed as a model to follow in the humanitarian field and other fields.

He pointed to the continuous and fruitful cooperation with AFAD, noting that it will continue and be strengthened in several areas, and expressing his hope that it will be larger and broader in the coming years.
