Iran Ceasefire
US President Donald trump said the ceasefire between US and Iran has survived basically since April but now was under “massive life support.” In remarks from the Oval Office, Trump called the truce “incredibly weak” and dismissed Iran's most recent proposal to end hostilities as “totally unacceptable" and a "piece of garbage."
Iran slammed Trump´s comments. Iran’s armed forces are prepared to respond at all times to any aggression, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf warned. Iran foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei pointed to “responsible” and “generous” Iranian proposals.
Iran's counter-offer is said to ask for cessation of attacks, an end to the US naval blockade, reparations for damages from the war and recognition of Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Also, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted as saying that the enriched uranium stockpile of Iran must be dissolved for the conflict's completion.
Tensions are mounting because Iran has been blocking passage through the Strait of Hormuz, drawing strategic implications for global oil prices.
