The Ministry of Education and Higher Education's Educational Guidance Department launched the second phase of the National Innovation Olympiad in mathematics, science and engineering (NIO 2023) in its second edition, in cooperation with the College of Engineering at Qatar University, Texas A&M University at Qatar and the Science Club.

This competition aims to encourage students to study science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics subjects in an integrated manner, to introduce and integrate artificial intelligence and technology into the educational process, and to develop students' capabilities in specialized fields that support innovation and competitiveness.

Targeting students of the primary stage (sixth grade) and the preparatory and secondary stages, participants compete in the fields of mathematics, science and engineering by submitting scientific projects according to the required special standards and controls. Three main areas for projects have been identified, which are energy, robots, smart devices and software systems.

The first phase of the competition was concluded in mid-January with the nomination of 45 teams (15 teams from each school stage: primary, preparatory, and secondary) from 200 government and private schools in order to compete in the second and final stage of the competition. Committees composed of experts specialized in the fields of mathematics, science and engineering discussed and evaluated the projects presented by students.
