Qatar has emerged as a sports hub, hosting global tournaments and inspiring young athletes, particularly women.

At the recent Web Summit Qatar 2024, athlete Mariam Farid discussed "breaking barriers in women’s sports", highlighting Qatar's commitment to organizing mega sporting events and its positive impact on youth.

Farid, a Northwestern alumna, represented Qatar at the 17th World Athletics Championship in Doha in 2019 and expressed pride in being chosen as an ambassador for the event.

Speaking at the Summit, Farid emphasized Qatar's role in hosting major events worldwide, spanning technology and sports, including the World Cup and Formula One.

She acknowledged the responsibility of representing Qatar and the region as a spokesperson at the Summit, stressing the importance of female representation in sports administration.

Farid, reflecting on her own journey, emphasized the significance of passion and dedication, noting her achievements in international competitions such as the World Championships and Asian Games.

She praised the increasing involvement of women in sports and administration in Qatar, expressing optimism for continued progress in breaking barriers in the years to come.
