AgriteQ 2024 organized workshops focused on the role of AI in modern agricultural methods

The activities of the Qatar's International Agricultural Exhibition - AgriteQ 2024 continued for the fifth consecutive day, with workshops organized on the role of using artificial intelligence applications in modern agricultural methods and their development, in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport affiliated with the League of Arab States.

These workshops and working sessions addressed the mechanisms of using smart and precision technologies in agricultural development through the use of drones and artificial intelligence to assess crop conditions, increase productivity, and modern trends in agricultural research development, as well as investment opportunities to support modern technologies for smart agriculture systems.

The session on smart and precision agriculture technologies discussed the applications of robots and drones in agriculture, and how they can be used to improve productivity and reduce costs. The ways in which robots and drones can effectively support agricultural operations were reviewed, including precise crop monitoring and more accurate and efficient control of fertilization and irrigation. Additionally, the session addressed how technology can be used to monitor diseases and pests, contributing to achieving further sustainability and reducing losses in agricultural production.

The session on Arab and international cooperation perspectives in the use of artificial intelligence in smart agriculture discussed the role of Arab countries and international companies in enhancing cooperation to develop smart agricultural technologies. Successful experiences from various countries, opportunities, and challenges in this important field were highlighted, along with ways to enhance international knowledge exchange and experiences to promote smart agriculture and achieve sustainability. It also emphasized the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors, and the role of research institutions in developing technologies and transferring knowledge to farmers.

In the same context, Director-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development Professor Ibrahim El Dukhiri, affirmed the organization's aim to benefit from smart and precision agriculture technologies in improving agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in the Arab region. He noted that these technologies would play a crucial role in achieving agricultural sector sustainability and reducing waste and costs by supporting innovation and adopting the latest technologies.

El Dukhiri said that the organization seeks to provide a sustainable agricultural environment that enhances farmers' productivity and improves product quality. They work on raising awareness and providing specialized training for farmers about the benefits and uses of these modern technologies to ensure their successful adoption in the Arab region and enhance their role in achieving food security and environmental sustainability.

President of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development Dr. Obaid Al Zaabi reiterated the Authority's commitment to supporting innovative and sustainable agricultural projects in the Arab region, emphasizing that investing in modern technology, such as artificial intelligence and remote sensing, and directing investments towards the agricultural sector, significantly contributes to achieving food security and enhancing the agricultural economy in the region. He pointed out the role of the Authority in promoting cooperation between the public and private sectors, and providing continuous support for emerging projects that contribute to improving productivity and agricultural development in Arab countries.

In addition, Dr. Khaled Wali, who is the Director of the Information and Communication Technology Department at the Arab League, said that the Arab League attaches great importance to the development of smart agriculture and the use of information technology to support the agricultural sector, and that it works on developing research and providing specialized training for farmers and experts in this field.

He added that by providing knowledge and modern technologies, the League aims to stimulate development in agriculture and achieve environmental and economic sustainability, considering cooperation with relevant organizations and institutions as vital to achieving common goals in supporting smart agriculture and enhancing agricultural development in the region.

It is worth mentioning that the AgriteQ 2024 is an important occasion for the agricultural sector in the Middle East and North Africa to gather experts and enthusiasts to discuss the latest developments and innovations in the field of smart and sustainable agriculture. The exhibition continues until next Thursday, offering a wide range of lectures and interactive sessions for discussion and knowledge exchange on the applications of technology in supporting the agricultural sector and achieving sustainability, in addition to opportunities for direct communication with leading companies in this field.
