Qatari athletes continued to excel at the West Asia Athletics Championship clinching five more medals on the third day (Three golds and two silvers) on Friday at Suheim bin Hamad Stadium with the participation of 12 countries, namely: host Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, UAE, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen and Syria.

The five Qatari medals were won by Ismail Daoud, who won the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles race, setting a new record in the championship with a time of 49.94 seconds, while his colleague Bassem Mohamed Awad won the silver medal for the same race with a time of 50.51 seconds.

Qatari Saif Al Din Abdul Salam won the gold medal in the pole vault competition, setting a new record for the championship 5.20 meters, Qatari Moaz Ibrahim won the gold medal in the discus throwing competition, recording 61.30 meters.

Qatari sprinters Sajja Essa boosted her personal medal tally by winning the silver medal in the 400 meters hurdles race, with a time of 1:0709 minutes, to add a second medal for herself after winning the 400 meters race earlier in the championship.

Qatar is at the top of the championship table with (18) medals, Bahrain comes in second place with (9) medals and Iraq comes third with (19) medals.
