Garangao celebrations

Qatar Tourism, in collaboration with Ashghal, The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, Qatar Airways and Ooredoo, is delighted to share details of its Garangao Cultural Activation taking place on April 5, 2023 at the Corniche Plaza; location QR code attached. From stage performances to art and design workshops, please see below the exciting range of free activities that will take place in the evening.

Stage

On a purpose-built stage, families will see a host of delightful activities that educate and entertain their kids. Starting 8pm, there will be puppet shows, quizzes with prizes, a fashion show and prizes for the best girl and boy Garangao outfit.

Workshop: Art

Furthermore, the surrounding area will see a painting and drawing workshop with Qatari artist and wildlife photographer, Azzam Al Mannai, where children will be provided with materials and tools to create a unique framed artwork. A parallel workshop will run in collaboration with Lebanese artist, Iyad Mouwad, featuring canvas and acrylic works.

Workshop: Batoola design

In collaboration with Tribatola, this girls-only event will welcome kids to learn more about the traditional batoola, drawing and creating their own batoola design.

Workshop: Sadu bracelet

Celebrating the cultural handicraft of Sadu weaving, this workshop will have kids learn about the traditional method of weaving from a Bedouin Weaving Master and create their very own friendship bracelet.

All workshops will have 4 sessions throughout the night, each lasting 45 minutes and with a capacity of 16 children in each round.

Henna corner

Guests will have the chance to decorate their hands with henna, a traditional symbol of good luck, health and beauty.

Polaroid instant selfies

In collaboration with Azzam Al Mannai, kids can take polaroid selfies against a special backdrop featuring one of the magnificent landscape shots taken by the artist himself.

Musaher A long-running and well-loved tradition of Ramadan, the ‘Musaher’ will walk around the area calling out Ramadan chants, replicating the role this special character plays in waking up a neighborhood to eat before dawn and a new day of fasting. The Musaher will also hand out giveaways to the audience.

Sweet treats

It wouldn’t be Garangao without a fabulous collection of treats! Kids will walk away with delicious bags of sweets to enjoy.
