Qatar

Qatar has recorded one of the world’s highest scores in the 2026 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Development Index (IDI), ranking sixth among 159 economies assessed, according to the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Qatar Scores 98.4 Out of 100

Qatar achieved a score of 98.4 points out of 100 in this year’s index. The country recorded a maximum score of 100 points in the Universal Connectivity pillar and 96.7 points in the Meaningful Connectivity pillar.

Qatar also recorded the second-highest fixed broadband data traffic globally, averaging nearly 1,000 GB per subscription each month.

Advanced Digital Infrastructure

The results reflect Qatar’s continued progress in expanding digital connectivity, strengthening telecommunications infrastructure and promoting widespread internet access.

The country has achieved 99 percent 5G population coverage and 100 percent fiber population coverage, supporting its position among the world’s highly connected digital economies.

Strong Performance Highlights Digital Maturity

The ITU noted that high-income economies are approaching the upper limits of connectivity performance, leaving less room for further gains in infrastructure-related indicators.

Against this backdrop, Qatar’s continued score of 98.4 highlights the maturity of its digital ecosystem and the effectiveness of its telecommunications policies and regulatory frameworks.

Supporting Digital Transformation

Qatar’s regulatory environment continues to encourage investment and innovation while supporting the development of advanced telecommunications infrastructure and high-quality communications services.

The progress contributes to the country’s digital transformation, strengthens the competitiveness of the national economy and enhances digital services for individuals and businesses.

Advancing Qatar’s Digital Vision

The achievement further reflects Qatar’s commitment to developing an integrated, inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the Third National Development Strategy and the Digital Agenda 2030.

Measuring Universal and Meaningful Connectivity

The ITU’s ICT Development Index is an internationally recognized benchmark measuring countries’ progress toward universal and meaningful connectivity. The index assesses factors including connectivity infrastructure, internet adoption, affordability and data usage.
