Ministry warns against using injectable exosome products for medical or cosmetic purposes

On 19 July 2026, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) released a circular regarding warning of unapproved injectable exosome products used for medical and cosmetic purposes.

The Pharmacy and Drug Control Department of the Ministry issued a circular after noticing products with exosomes being promoted.

The directives issued in the circular were as follows:

• No exosome product has been approved to be injected for medical[or cosmetic purposes by the Pharmacy and Drug Control Department, Ministry of Public Health-Qatar, nor any office/department of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA),as of the date quickly notice.)

• Any exosome products are strictly for external (topical) use only.

• They are absolutely not allowed to perform exosome injections, advertise them with unapproved therapeutic or cosmetic claims, or use them beyond their approved topical applications. The ministry reiterated that it has not proven scientifically the safety and effectiveness of those injections and their potential health risks.

The ministry stated that all forms of anything from exosome injections are prohibited, as is advertising or promoting them with non-approved claims required for a drug under the Drug Law and cosmetic claims beyond the human cell, tissue and organ use regulation acts.

The announcement also added that the safety and efficacy of these injectable products are not scientifically substantiated and may pose health hazards.

The ministry also warned that noncompliance may lead offenders to face regulatory and legal action in accordance with the laws of the State of Qatar. It called on people and organisations concerned to adhere to the regulations in order to protect public health and safety.
