Qatar Ministry of Culture Concludes Participation in Moscow International Book Fair

Moscow: Qatar’s Ministry of Culture has concluded its participation in the Moscow International Book Fair, as part of efforts to strengthen Qatar’s cultural presence internationally and introduce Qatari intellectual and literary production to a wider audience. 

The participation also highlighted Qatar’s role as a centre for creativity and cultural diversity while creating new opportunities for cooperation between Qatari and international publishers.

Qatar Pavilion Draws Strong Visitor Interest

Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, Director of the Doha International Book Fair, said the Ministry of Culture’s pavilion attracted large numbers of visitors during the event.

Visitors showed particular interest in the cultural and interactive experiences offered at the pavilion, including digital screens showcasing different aspects of Qatari culture. 

An Arabic calligraphy station was also among the attractions, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the beauty of traditional Arabic calligraphy and have their names written in Arabic script.

New Opportunities for Qatari Publishers

Al Buainain said Qatar’s participation provided local publishing houses with an important opportunity to establish new partnerships with Russian publishers.

Discussions focused particularly on opportunities for translating books between Arabic and Russian, helping literary and intellectual works reach new audiences in both regions. 

The fair also facilitated business meetings between Qatari publishers and Russian and international publishing houses to explore cooperation in areas including publishing and intellectual property rights.

Supporting Qatar’s Publishing Industry

Qatar’s participation forms part of the Ministry of Culture’s wider initiatives to support local publishing houses and strengthen their presence at major international cultural events.

Through participation in international book fairs, the ministry aims to:

•    Open new markets for Qatari publications 
•    Strengthen international publishing partnerships 
•    Support translation between Arabic and other languages 
•    Develop Qatar’s publishing industry 
•    Promote cultural exchange with countries around the world 

The Moscow International Book Fair provided another platform for Qatar to showcase its cultural identity while building stronger international connections in publishing, translation and intellectual exchange.
