Jordan air defence systems intercept, neutralise three Iranian missiles

Jordan's air defence systems intercepted and shot down three missiles launched from Iranian territory after they entered the Kingdom's airspace, the Jordanian Armed Forces said, in the latest spillover of regional hostilities onto Jordanian soil.

A military source at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army, quoted by the state news agency Petra, said the interception had been carried out in line with established operational and defensive measures to protect the Kingdom's sovereignty, security and citizens. The operation caused no casualties or material damage.

Royal Engineering Corps teams were deployed to several sites where missile debris fell, securing the areas and handling the remnants in accordance with approved technical and security procedures, the source added.
The armed forces said they were continuing to monitor Jordanian airspace and maintaining operational readiness, stressing that they would not hesitate to counter any threat to the Kingdom's security, sovereignty and the safety of its citizens, in accordance with their rules of engagement.

The interception came amid a sharp escalation in the region. Earlier, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had targeted US aircraft in the Jordanian port city of Aqaba, as the United States pressed a series of strikes on Iran and Tehran retaliated against US bases and facilities across the region.

Jordan, which lies on the flight path between Iran and Israel, has repeatedly intercepted missiles and drones entering its airspace during the current conflict and has described the protection of its airspace as a non-negotiable priority. The latest incident forms part of a wave of Iranian attacks that have also struck or targeted Bahrain, Kuwait and other Gulf states, drawing condemnation from Arab and Gulf bodies.
