Flights over parts of the Middle East were also cut after Iran's missile strikes on bases in Kuwait and Bahrain prompted precautionary measures there.
As regional tensions escalated, reports indicated that Bahrain had closed its airspace, and airline services curtailed in the UAE and later also in Kuwait.
Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait and Bahrain either missed or were shot down, the US military said on Wednesday morning after launching counter-strikes aimed at an Iraqi Iran site. The strikes, which were aimed at an Iranian military ground control station containing a desalination plant located on Qeshm Island just north of the Strait of Hormuz, were specifically ordered by Central Command in Washington, D.C.
Iran, who previously were said to be going for further negotiations about how long this would go on, have apparently halted contact with intermediaries. The last attack came months later than expected. But such a claim was dismissed by the US as negotiations were ongoing, PTI reported an assertion attributed to President Donald Trump.
Airplanes are being cleared out or left in upper layers of the Persian Gulf over Dubai and UAE following the assault.
This comes after airlines had already cancelled flights to and from parts of the Middle East, including into and out of Dubai amid regional tensions.
