A Brilliant Early Brace
Cristiano Ronaldo played a brilliant game but left the pitch visibly frustrated. He desperately wanted a historic hat-trick against Uzbekistan today. He started perfectly by scoring a beautiful goal in the sixth minute. He then doubled his personal tally in the 39th minute. Bruno Fernandes provided a flawless assist for that second strike. Ronaldo broke multiple national records, but he demanded three goals.
Nematov Plays the Spoiler
Uzbekistan goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov suffered a terrible game overall. He even scored a tragic own goal in the second half. However, Nematov completely ruined Ronaldo's quest for a hat-trick. He produced a massive save against Ronaldo in the 58th minute. He stretched his body to block another vicious Ronaldo volley later. Nematov simply refused to let the Portuguese captain score a third.
Denied on the Goal Line
Ronaldo experienced his most agonizing failure right before halftime. He improvised a brilliant shot past the diving goalkeeper. An Uzbek defender desperately hacked the ball completely off the goal line. Ronaldo smashed the turf in pure, unadulterated anger. He also strayed offside late in the match while chasing a long pass. He secured a 5-0 victory, but the missing hat-trick clearly haunts him.
