Consulate of Qatar in Munich issues guidelines for Qatari citizens travelling to Germany

DOHA: The Consulate General of the State of Qatar in Munich has issued a travel advisory for Qatari citizens visiting Germany, highlighting important requirements related to Schengen visas, permitted stay durations and driving licences.

The advisory urges travellers to ensure they meet German and Schengen regulations and carry the necessary supporting documents throughout their journey.

First Entry with a German Visa

Qatari citizens whose main destination or longest stay is Germany must apply for a visa through the German Embassy in Qatar.

Travellers should also retain supporting documents related to their trip, including hotel bookings and relevant travel tickets. These documents may be requested by border authorities or other competent officials upon arrival.

Entering Germany with a Visa Issued by Another Schengen Country

Qatari citizens holding a Schengen visa issued by another Schengen country may enter Germany as part of their journey, including as an entry or transit point.

However, travellers must retain documents supporting their travel plans for the country that issued the visa, such as hotel reservations and travel tickets.

Under Schengen rules, the country that issued the visa must be the traveller’s main destination or the country where they will spend the longest period during the trip.

Schengen Tourist Stay Limit

Travellers must comply with the Schengen short-stay rule, which allows a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period.

Qatari citizens are advised to carefully check their authorised stay period and departure date to ensure they do not exceed the permitted duration.

Overstaying the authorised period could result in immigration or legal complications.

Driving in Germany with a Qatari Licence

A Qatari driving licence can be used to drive in Germany for up to six months, subject to applicable German regulations.

Drivers must carry the original physical driving licence while operating a vehicle. A digital photograph or copy of the licence stored in the Metrash app is not accepted, even when the driver also holds an International Driving Permit.

Travellers planning to drive in Germany are advised to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP), which is valid for one year.
