Cabinet Approves Draft Legislation For Nationalizing Private Sector Entities

The Cabinet has agreed on a new law about taking control of private businesses

On Wednesday, the Cabinet gave initial approval to a draft law concerning the nationalization of private sector jobs and supported a draft Cabinet decision outlining incentives, amenities, and advantages offered under this law's provisions.

The meeting was presided over by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, at the Amiri Diwan.
After the meeting, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs stated that as per the draft's provisions, a Cabinet decision, guided by the Minister of Labour's proposal, identifies the nationalized positions within each industry, considering the respective nationalization plans and rates.

Additionally, guided by the Minister's proposal, a Cabinet decision specifies the incentives applicable to entities under this law's provisions, as well as the facilities and privileges available to those entities committed to meeting nationalization rates. Moreover, it outlines financial incentives intended for Qatari workers within these entities.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet conveyed Qatar's solidarity and heartfelt condolences to the government and citizens of the Republic of Turkey and Syria following a severe earthquake that affected various regions in both countries. The Cabinet extended wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the disaster.

Furthermore, the Cabinet examined the following matters and made appropriate decisions concerning:

1. Draft agreement between the government of Qatar and the United Nations, outlining arrangements for the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
2. Outcomes from the 35th session of Arab Ministers of Transport.
3. Results stemming from the visit of HE the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to the Republic of Turkey and the United Kingdom.
4. Conclusions drawn from the 17th Regional Meeting for Asia, the Pacific, and the Arab States aimed at defining work priorities and fostering employment growth.

Additionally, the Cabinet listened to a presentation by HE the Minister of Municipality on the Ministry's readiness to host the Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha from 10/2/2023 to 3/28/2024 and took the appropriate action on this matter.
