A Russian missile hit a “crowded” mall in east Ukraine today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The shopping centre in Kremenchuk had over a thousand civilians when the attack took place, he added.

At least 10 people have been killed and 40 injured in the attack, news agency AFP said, quoting the Governor.

“The occupiers launched a missile strike at the shopping center. There were more than a thousand civilians. The mall is on fire, rescuers are extinguishing fire, number of victims is unimaginable,” Zelenskyy wrote on the messaging app, Telegram.

Locals were seen helping the medics and first responders provide first aid to the victims of the attack and help put the injured in ambulances.

It has been nearly four months since Russia invaded Ukraine in a pre-dawn attack in February. Kremenchuk, with a population of a little over two lakh people before the Russian invasion, was an important industrial city and stands on the banks of the Dnipro River.
