Katara Award for Quran Recitation

On Wednesday, Cultural Village Foundation-Katara revealed that 1,315 individuals from 64 Arab and foreign countries have registered for Katara's seventh Quran Recitation Award.

Themed 'Enhance the Quran with Your Voices,' the award attracted 685 Arab participants from 18 Arab states and 360 participants from 46 foreign countries. Maghreb countries had the highest representation at 307 participants, with Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia following closely with 233 participants.

Participants from the Levant nations, including Iraq with 93 individuals, were also present. Additionally, around 52 participants represented the GCC states.

The sorting committee will assess the performance of all participants to choose the top 100 who will advance to the finals in Doha, according to Katara. The qualified participants will then partake in the seventh-round finals, spanning 20 TV episodes with 5 participants in each episode. From each episode, one qualified contender will be selected to proceed to the semi-finals.

The nomination period for the seventh award was open from October 1 to December 15, 2023. The award's objectives include promoting exceptional talents in Quranic recitation, identifying and supporting talented individuals, recognizing innovative achievements, and inspiring the younger generation to embrace religious teachings while understanding their responsibilities towards religion and the Islamic message.

The award aims to motivate Muslims to engage in the careful and meaningful reading of the Holy Quran, emphasizing both recitation and comprehension. The competition is endowed with a total value of QR 900,000, with the first-place winner receiving QR 500,000, the second-place QR 300,000, and the third-place QR 100,000.
