Almost all hospital admissions for people over 65 years are for those individuals who are not fully vaccinated, Dr Hanadi Al Hamad, Medical Director of Rumailah Hospital, Medical Director of Qatar Rehabilitation Centre at Hamad Medical Corporation and Leader of the Health Ageing Priority in the National Health Strategy, has said.

Al Hamad said this in a message posted on a social media urging all older citizens to take the vaccine.

She said that nine out of 10 people over 65 years of age have been vaccinated. “But we still have too many older people unprotected against this virus. This message is for all our older citizens in Qatar who have not yet been vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus,” she said.

“The Delta variant of the virus is a significant risk in most countries around the world, especially for our elderly population. It is more contagious and causes more severe symptoms than other strains.

“Almost all hospital admissions for people over 65 are for those individuals who are not fully vaccinated. It is therefore more important than ever to vaccinate our elderly relatives,” Al Hamad added.

“Qatar cares for its older population and provides highly effective and safe vaccines. I therefore urge family members of older people to get vaccinated and support your elderly relatives to get the vaccine,” she said.
