The 33rd Edition of the Doha International Book Fair

The 33rd edition of the Doha International Book Fair commences today at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), themed "Knowledge Builds Civilizations."

With an impressive turnout, the fair sees participation from 515 publishing houses representing 42 countries, marking the largest international presence in its history. Notably, the Sultanate of Oman takes the spotlight as the guest of honor, presenting its rich heritage in a dedicated pavilion.

Qatari publishing houses also shine, underscoring the nation's steadfast support for the literary and creative sectors. Among them are Rosa Publishing House, Dar Al Watad, QU Press, Katara Publishing House, HBKU Press, Dar Al Sharq, Dar Al Thaqafa, Dar Napjah, and Dar Nawa. Additionally, institutions like Lusail University, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, and Qatar Museums contribute significantly.

The fair promises a diverse array of regional, Arab, and international participants, including esteemed entities like the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature of Kuwait, the Ministry of Heritage and Culture of Oman, and the Sharjah Book Authority. Noteworthy is the presence of libraries from Egypt's historic Souq El Azbakeya, renowned for their collection of rare books.

Innovatively, the fair introduces a "Central Zone," spotlighting historical figures and scholars pivotal to the advancement of science, culture, and knowledge. Furthermore, the Ministry of Culture's pavilion showcases a plethora of books and new releases, featuring a digital printing press for on-demand copies of Ministry publications.

Directed by Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, the 2024 fair promises an engaging blend of cultural exchange, scholarly exploration, and literary celebration, embodying the essence of its theme.
