Captain Jassim Abdullah Al Thani, Assistant Director of Ras Laffan Security Operations and Marine Operations, highlighted the severe consequences outlined in Law No. 8 of 2004 for violations concerning offshore oil and gas facilities. Speaking to Qatar TV, Captain Jassim emphasized the gravity of offenses categorized into four distinct types:

  • Unauthorized approach of marine vessels within 500 meters of oil platforms.
  • Fishing within 500 meters of marine platforms without permission.
  • Sabotage acts within 500 meters of offshore oil platforms.
  • Anchoring at marinas designated for oil and gas operations.

Penalties range from fines of QR 100,000 and imprisonment for up to 3 years for violations involving approaches under 500 meters, to fines of QR 200,000 and imprisonment for the same term for unintentional sabotage. Deliberate acts of sabotage carry the most severe penalties, with imprisonment up to 20 years and fines of up to QR 500,000. These measures underscore Qatar's commitment to safeguarding its vital energy infrastructure.
