US President Trump Evacuated From Correspondents’ Dinner After Shooting Incident
The Secret Service evacuated US President Donald Trump and the First Lady from the White House Correspondentsā Dinner on Saturday night after reports of suspected gunfire outside the Hilton hotel ballroom in Washington, DC.
President Trump confirmed that the gunman had been apprehended and assured that he, the First Lady, the Vice President, and cabinet members were safe. No casualties were reported. He described the attacker as a āsick personā and said the man was heavily armed but quickly subdued by the Secret Service.
Speaking to reporters, Trump suggested he may have been the target of the incident, calling the shooter a lone actor and dismissing any connection to the ongoing conflict with Iran. He praised the āquickā and ābraveā response of law enforcement and the Secret Service, noting their decisive action prevented further harm.
Trump added that he had spoken with representatives responsible for organizing the gala and confirmed the event will be rescheduled within 30 days. He said he would address the press from the White House shortly.
