Trump says US–Iran talks may resume in Islamabad within days
US President Donald Trump has indicated that peace talks between Washington and Tehran may restart in Pakistan within the next two days, raising hopes of progress before the current ceasefire expires on April 22.
Speaking to a New York Post reporter who had attended the first round of negotiations in Islamabad, Trump urged her to remain in the city, saying: âYou should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and weâre more inclined to go there.â He praised Pakistanâs army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for doing a âgreat jobâ in arranging the talks.
Pakistani officials confirmed on Tuesday that preparations are underway to reconvene negotiations, though they cautioned that the timeline may extend slightly beyond Trumpâs suggestion. âTalks are expected to restart soon, but it may take a day or two longer,â one official said.
Islamabad is racing to organize the next round of discussions before the twoâweek ceasefire lapses, with regional stakeholders closely monitoring developments. The talks are seen as pivotal to preventing renewed escalation in the Gulf and safeguarding global energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
