Skippers Canyon Road, New Zealand
Carved into the cliffs of Skippers Canyon during the 19th-century gold rush, this 22-kilometer road is considered so risky that most rental car companies won't insure vehicles driven on it. There are no guardrails, the surface is unpaved, and some one-way sections require reversing for long stretches if another vehicle is coming the other way.
