The Qatar National Blood Donation Center was inaugurated by the Health Minister.

The inauguration of the new Qatar National Blood Donation Center at Hamad Medical Corporation saw the presence of notable figures such as H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Minister for Public Health, H E Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of State for Interior Affairs, and Dr. Mohammed Eid Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sheikh Eid Charitable Foundation.

In recognition of the support provided by Eid Charity to the new Center, two halls within the facility will bear the name of H E Sheikh Eid bin Mohammad Al Thani.

Following the ceremony, attendees were briefed on the features and services of the new building by Hamad Nasser Al Khalifa, HMC’s Chief of Health Facilities Development, and Dr. Einas Al Kuwari, Chairperson of HMC’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.

Dr. Al Kuwari emphasized that the opening of the Qatar National Blood Donation Center not only enhances HMC’s Blood Donation Program but also ensures a smoother experience for donors, highlighting the critical role of safe blood and blood products in healthcare.

The Center will serve as the sole source of blood and blood components for all governmental and private hospitals in Qatar, boasting 38 blood collection beds, a significant increase from the previous center. It will offer various services including Therapeutic Plasma Exchange procedures, therapeutic phlebotomy, stem cell collection, and platelet apheresis.

Dr. Einas Al Kuwari discussed the future capabilities of the Center, including the freezing of rare blood groups and red cell genotyping. She emphasized the importance of regular blood donations in maintaining a stable blood supply, thanking donors for their contribution and inviting them to the new, advanced facility.
