Russian President Affirms Commitment to Ensuring Security of Ukraine Settlement Talks

Moscow, Russia | September 05,2026 – Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday that his country will do everything necessary to ensure the security of negotiations aimed at finding a solution to the conflict with Ukraine.

Putin Notes Reduction in Ukrainian Strikes

During his meeting with US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow, Putin said the Ukrainian side had significantly scaled back its strikes on Russian territory since midnight. He added that Russian armed forces have not launched any strikes on Kyiv since that time — a development Moscow described as a "partial truce" reached through security channels.

Putin Vows to Push Forward Despite Challenges

Despite acknowledging the complexity of the situation, Putin said he would remain steadfast in efforts to reach a settlement and help resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Three-Day Truce Proposal Discussed Through Official Channels

Putin said Moscow had received a proposal through official intelligence and foreign ministry channels to temporarily halt strikes on Kyiv, noting that the Ukrainian side had put forward a broader three-day truce — though this proposal had not been directly discussed between Moscow and Kyiv.

Kremlin Confirms Three-Day Halt on Strikes on Kyiv

Earlier in the day, the Kremlin announced that Putin had ordered a three-day halt to strikes on Kyiv, coinciding with the US envoys' visit and talks aimed at resolving the conflict.

Peace Proposal Presented Amid Diplomatic Push

President Trump had earlier indicated that the envoys would present a peace proposal during their visit to Moscow aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. This meeting marks the sixth such engagement between Putin and the US delegation, coming amid intensive diplomatic efforts to reach a breakthrough on the Ukrainian conflict. Both envoys are scheduled to travel to Kyiv on Sunday to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
