The 'Stand with Palestine' campaign, spearheaded by students from Qatar Academy Doha (QAD), successfully generated QR20 million following a highly acclaimed event held at the Education City Stadium yesterday.

With the goal of raising funds to aid the Palestinian people, the initiative drew a crowd of over 27,000 at the Qatar 2022 venue. The event featured a friendly match between Qatar and Palestine, showcasing the participation of celebrities and students.

Minister of Sports and Youth H E Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF) H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, and other dignitaries attended the event.

Launched by QF's Pre-University Education, the fundraising initiative sought to engage the local community, allowing them to express solidarity with the people of Palestine. The proceeds from ticket sales for the football match will contribute to relief efforts for Palestinians.

For those wanting to donate beyond the ticket price, the initiative collaborated with Qatar Charity, providing a dedicated online link for direct contributions to official channels supporting relief efforts in Palestine.

The main football event showcased QAD and Palestinian school students playing alongside local and international players, media personalities, and influencers such as Rodrigo Tabata, Yaqub Bushahri, Mohammed Saadoun Al Kuwari, Ali Al Habsi, and Yassin Ibrahimi. Divided into two teams—Qatar and Palestine—the match featured over 100 QAD student volunteers, trained by the Asian Football Confederation.

Among the attendees was Wafa Hosni Jaber, a Palestinian residing in Qatar for over 20 years, emphasizing Qatar's consistent support for Palestine. Mustafa Khatib expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting the Qatari people's unconditional support.

The event comprised various activities, performances, and a musical act with a Palestinian theme. Notable artists like Nasser Al Kubaisi, Dana Al Meer, Nesma Emad, and Hala Al Imadi presented songs such as "Palestine is Arab" and "My Homeland." The match concluded in a 2-2 tie after the initial 30 minutes, with Palestine winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout during the second half.
