In a move designed to encourage more open and sustainable tourism, Qatar Tourism has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qatar Foundation for Social Work. The partnership has a vision to facilitate inclusiveness of all societal segments in the tourism sector while also transforming the tourism environment and making it more savoring, and convenient for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

As a new thought to empower autistic persons, MoU also incorporates launching of "Autism-Friendly Spaces" initiative on a pilot basis in one of the hotels across the country. The cooperation framework includes the implementation of joint awareness campaigns, the design of dedicated training programmes for tourism sector workers to deepen their knowledge and understanding of visitors' diverse needs as well as the sharing of technical and advisory expertise.

In remarks on the initiative, Mr. Omar Abdulrahman Al-Jaber, Head of Tourism Development Sector at Qatar Tourism said: "The signing of this memorandum of understanding with the Qatar Foundation for Social Work is a significant milestone toward cementing the principle of inclusive tourism in the State of Qatar and reflects our continued commitment to productive cooperation with various government agencies contributing to achieving an effective, sustainable and impactful outcome.

Through this partnership, we are focused on improving and implementing qualitative projects, including the Autism-Friendly Spaces initiative as a contributor to enhance visitor experience and support all segments of society. We also reiterate the importance of instilling the principles of social responsibility and leveraging best tourism practices that reflect values of participatory, inclusive and innovative media support to reaffirm Qatar's status as a premier integrated tourism destination".

In this context, Mr. Rashid Mohammed Al Hamda Al Naimi, CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, confirms that the initiative embodies the role of the Foundation in advocacy and promotion of people with disabilities rights by developing practical and innovative models to create more inclusive and responsive environments to ensure better representation in various aspects of life — noting that for societies to be sustainable it is essential to empower persons with disabilities to actively participate in their communities across sectors.

He also mentioned that the strategic partnership with Qatar Tourism constitutes an important pillar for achieving a sustainable impact through converting field expertise into practical applications that contribute to improving quality of life and supporting the integration of all segments of society, in addition to opening new horizons to develop joint initiatives with tangible results.

This strategic partnership is in line with Qatar Tourism's vision to enhance a sustainable tourism sector that serves everyone and embodies Qatar's commitment to supporting social responsibility and empowering, integrating and serving all segments of society. It also aims at inspiring all stakeholders in the tourism sector – hotels, establishments and service providers – to develop programs similar to Timeless Qatar that enhance visitor experience and reflect Qatar's position among the world's forefront tourist destinations in factors of inclusion and innovation for social good.
