Qatar Tourism
In line with its commitment to promote inclusive and sustainable tourism, Qatar Tourism (QT) and the Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The joint initiative supports the inclusive approach across tourism channels and promotes easing the environment to offer more seamless experiences for people with autism difficulties and their families.
A pilot for one of the country’s first ‘Autism-Friendly Spaces’ in a hotel is part of the MoU, which provides an effective initiative to help support people with autism. The cooperation framework also includes the undertaking of joint awareness-raising initiatives, the preparation of targeted training courses for workers in tourism to better understand the diverse needs of visitors and exchanges of technical and advisory expertise.
Omar Abdulrahman Al-Jaber, Head of Tourism Development Sector at Qatar Tourism said: "The signing of the memorandum of understanding between Qatar Tourism and the Qatar Foundation for Social Work is a valuable step towards further strengthening the concept around inclusive tourism in the State of Qatar, representing an aspiration and ongoing commitment to constructive cooperation with all government entities to achieve positive impact in a sustainable manner.
'We are collaborating on qualitative initiatives through this partnership, including the 'Autism-Friendly Spaces', which aims to facilitate and enable the experience of visitors in an innovative way that benefits all segments of society.' We also reaffirm our commitment to integrating principles of significant social responsibility and working with the tourism sector to attract best practice through a view widely accepted as embodying values such as inclusivity and renovation in support of Qatar becoming an acclaimed, integrated tourism destination."
Rashid Mohammed Al Hamda Al Naimi, CEO of QFSW said: "This initiative comes as an embodiment of the Foundation's efforts to raise awareness and promote the rights of persons with disabilities through innovative models that create more inclusive and accessible environments in all life domains for better participation.
This strategic partnership is in line with Qatar Tourism’s goals to grow a sustainable tourism sector that meets the needs of all, and demonstrates the State of Qatar's commitment to social responsibility by empowering and integrating all segments of society. The initiative also aims to motivate all players in the tourism ecosystem — hotels, facilities and services providers reluctant to reach out for those who could aggravate that experience — to adopt practices that maximize inclusion of people with special needs by raising Qatar's profile as a premier world-class tourism destination for inclusion and social innovation.
