Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has announced the establishment of six new public schools and a series of leadership appointments and transfers as the country prepares for the 2026–27 academic year.

The move was issued under Decision No. 14 of 2026 by HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater. Alongside opening the new schools, the decision appoints 17 school principals and transfers another 17.

Six New Public Schools Announced

The new schools will expand public education capacity across several communities and include specialised science and technology schools.

•    Doha Preparatory School for Girls
•    Al Thakhira Primary School for Boys

School Leadership Changes

The ministry’s decision also includes the appointment of 17 principals and the transfer of 17 existing school principals. MoEHE said the changes are intended to strengthen the efficiency of public-school administration and improve the education sector’s readiness for the start of the new academic year.

Preparing for the 2026–27 Academic Year

The announcement comes as Qatar steps up preparations for students and education staff returning for the new school year. MoEHE has also launched its 2026–27 back-to-school campaign, which includes activities for students and families as well as training workshops for teachers and educational leaders.

Focus on Quality and Educational Leadership

According to the ministry, the new schools and leadership decisions form part of efforts to provide a high-quality educational environment while developing educational capabilities and leadership in line with Qatar’s population growth and evolving education needs.

Supporting Qatar National Vision 2030

The expansion of public-school infrastructure also supports the human development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. Investment in education and human capabilities remains a central part of the country’s strategy for sustainable development.

New Capacity for Qatar’s Public Education System

With six additional schools and changes to school leadership, the latest decision strengthens the public education network ahead of the 2026–27 academic year. The inclusion of dedicated science and technology schools also reflects Qatar’s continued emphasis on developing skills relevant to future economic and technological needs.
